Class 6.1 Toxic Substance Shipping from China

Class 6.1 covers substances that can cause death or serious harm if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Pesticides, chemical intermediates and many industrial products fall here. Because the hazard is to people, carriers and ports scrutinize these shipments closely, and correct documentation is essential. We arrange Class 6.1 exports from China by sea and, where allowed, by air.

Products we commonly ship

  • Pesticides, insecticides, herbicides and fungicides, in liquid and solid formulations
  • Organic and inorganic toxic chemicals used as intermediates
  • Dye and pigment intermediates, phenols and some heavy metal compounds
  • Toxic liquids and solids shipped under generic n.o.s. entries, which need a technical name on the paperwork

Packaging and handling

  • UN-certified packaging for the packing group, leak-proof and fully sealed
  • Toxic goods must not be packed or stowed with foodstuffs or feed
  • Class 6.1 label, UN number and marine pollutant mark where the product qualifies
  • Segregation from foodstuffs and incompatible classes during stowage

Export controls and compliance

Some toxic chemicals and precursor chemicals are subject to export licensing or reporting in China, and destination countries can require import permits or pesticide registrations. We screen the product and remind you of any licence needed before booking, but the shipper remains responsible for holding the required approvals.

FAQ

Can pesticides be shipped by sea from China?

Yes, when correctly classified, packed in UN packaging and declared. Many pesticides are also marine pollutants, which adds marking requirements. Send us the SDS and label.

Are all toxic goods accepted by air?

No. Many Class 6.1 products are restricted on passenger aircraft or limited on cargo aircraft, and highly toxic substances are often refused. Sea freight is the normal route.

Regulations are revised regularly. IMDG Code Amendment 42-24 is mandatory from 1 January 2026 and the 67th Edition of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations applies during 2026. Requirements vary by carrier, port and destination, so please contact us to confirm the rules for your specific shipment.
